About Currency Converter
Whether you are shopping from an overseas store, planning a trip, sending money to family or pricing work for a foreign client, you need to know what an amount is worth in another currency. This Currency Converter loads the latest daily reference rates when the page opens and converts any amount between more than twenty major and regional currencies, including the US dollar, euro, British pound, Kenyan shilling, Somali shilling, Indian rupee and UAE dirham. It shows the converted amount, the rate for one unit, and when the rates were last updated, so you always know how fresh the figure is.
Exchange rates show how much of one currency buys one unit of another. This tool loads published reference rates once a day and converts through the US dollar, so any pair can be compared.
How to use Currency Converter
- Type the amount you want to convert.
- Choose the currency you have in the first menu and the currency you want in the second.
- Read the converted amount and the one-unit rate below; use the swap button to flip the direction.
Everyday uses and tips
Use it to check whether an online price is a good deal, to budget for travel spending, to estimate what a relative will receive from a transfer, or to quote prices to international customers. For example, if 1 USD equals 0.92 EUR, then 250 USD is about 230 EUR. Remember that these are mid-market reference rates: when you actually exchange money, a bank, card or transfer service usually adds a margin of one to five percent, so compare the rate they offer against this figure to see how much you are really paying. Rates refresh once a day and are not meant for trading.
Important considerations
Reference rates are mid-market figures for information only. Banks, card providers and exchange counters add a margin or fee, so the amount you actually receive will usually be a little lower.
